The Holidays are one of the most confusing times to shop. Sometimes, if you wait long enough, the price on the item you wanted will plummet, just before Christmas, and drop even further during the January clearance sales, when all the stores are clearing winter items to make room for Spring fashions. This year you can get a jump on that process by Christmas shopping at Coldwater Creek and other big stores that still have overstocks of spring /summer items. I just bought a couple of items for 40% off of a 60% markdown. I should add that I've been following these items for months and guessed that 80% off was the best I was likely to get. (Yes, you probably DO need a calculator.)
Lots of times, that happens, just that way. However, remember that the item you want or need may be wanted or needed by others, too. That means that the item may sell out before it drops to a price you can afford. Is this a tragedy? NO!
It used to be that it would be years between before another "perfect dress" showed up at the mall. But now, with your computer, you have access to stores everywhere in the world. With the entire world turned into one massive mall, shopping isn't a desperate grab for just anything that might keep you from being arrested for indecent exposure. It's a leisurely browse through sources from every continent, and once you have your wardrobe basics (ie, you can go outside without getting arrested) you can actually enjoy imagining yourself in all sorts of garments and undergarments. It's fun! Like playing dress-up.
If an outfit sells out, there will be others. You have a long list of suppliers listed on this blog. If your usual sources fail you, check them!
If you can afford to buy anything you want, and pay any amount they charge, that's lovely. Do be sure to take whatever you don't wear often to your local consignment store, OR hire some contractors to build a nice place to store all of it. (Remember, clutter is always the enemy!)
If, on the other hand, you have to figure out how much you can spend on clothes and still pay for your other basics, remember that looking good is important to your well being and your career. It creates that important first image that makes people decide whether you're a hard worker, whether you're smart, whether you represent the company or the family in a positive way.
On the other hand, your credit score is just as important. If you spend more than you can quickly pay back, your credit score will suffer. That used to be a private matter between you and your creditors, but now employers, prospective employers and law enforcement officers look at a bad credit score and massive credit ard debt as proof that you're irresponsible and possibly dishonest.
One of my friends has been living with her boyfriend for more than twen years. They have two children together and the relationship appears permanent. She told me she'd love to marry him, but she can't afford to marry his credit card debts, which just keep getting bigger.
Think about it. If you were considering marriage and you found out that the day you said "I do.", thanks to community property, HALF of his $25,000 credit card debt would be half yours... Wouldn't you have a few second thoughts?
Say 25,00 of them?
A bad credit score can bar you from the life you've always dreamed of .
So, admire everything, put together a "wish list" of everything you want, then narrow it down and select ONLY what you can afford this month. Then wait a few days and see if you STILL think it would be that wonderful. (Sometimes, given 3 days to "chill, you find yourself thinking "What WAS I THINKING?"
But if it still seems like the item that would fit the exact need you have, and you want it, need it, and can afford it, that's the time to buy it.
Gradually you'll accumulate both a wardrobe and a credit score to be proud of.

Nordstroms.com Bi-Annual Sale
I spent some time at Nordstroms.com today for their Bi-Annual Sale and it was a real change from the old days!
The last time I went there they had a few shapeless wardrobe basics, mostly in black, brown and navy. You know? The kind of clothes that seemed designed to allow "fat girls" to be as invisible as possible?
Today they have a sale on that cuts a lot of prices by 50%, and several of their items were really cute! Off the shoulder dresses that show your curves, patterned skirts (I bought one that has a matching top that may work for my New Years Eve show.) and some cute, practical office and coffee shop outfits!
The styles remind me of the clothing you see on re-runs of "Friends" They have things for Monica, Rachel AND Phoebe!
Worthy of note: They have free shipping and handling AND free returns. This is a very big deal and can save you a lot more than chump change!
Do beware of lengths! READ to descriptions. They had two pictures, side by side of models in hip length tops. One top was 27" long. The other top was 34"long! Apparently their models come in all heights, so "eyeballing" things is a BAD idea!
Also, they have a fair amount of dry-clean only clothing. Be careful, and don't buy things that harm the environment AND your wallet.
Even so, I actually spent money on clothes from Nordstroms, and that's a first. They're now officially on my list.
Maybe you'll find something there that shows you off? Something the right style and length and color that draws attention to all of your best points?
That's my wish for you.
Be Beautiful!

Free Shipping & Returns can save you a Bundle!
Lots of times I hear that a site is too expensive. On the average, that may be true, but many of the expensive sites, and some of the inexpensive ones, offer a great benefit that can make their merchandise a better buy than stores that have lower prices. These stores have Free Shipping & Handling, plus Free Returns.
I just ordered 5 items, from Nordstroms.com. I've paid as much as $25 in shipping and handling for that much merchandise. Even one blouse, ordered from a Redcats Group store, would cost around $7 to have shipped. Suppose I got the blouse on sale for $6? Shipping and handling would be more than half of the cost!
Now suppose the blouse didn't fit?
First, shipping and handling isn't usually refunded, on returned items. They give you the purchase price ONLY, so even if I return the blouse, and get my $6 back, I'm still out the $7.
Now, am I spending another $6.95 to use their address sticker and send the blouse back? Probably not. So it comes out like this:
$ 6 for a cute blouse from catalog that turns out to be UGLY on me.
plus $ 7 to have them send me the blouse
equals $13 initial payment.
Then I find out that the blouse is attracs static electricity and clings to me in weird places.
The store will retun the $6 for the blouse,
but NOT the $7 for shipping it to me, so I'm out that $7.
Also, in order to get the $6 back for the blouse, I have to pay $6.95 to UPS to send it back!
So now, in order to get a $6 blouse refund, I've paid $13.95 in shipping!
If on the other hand, you shop sales at stores like Nordstroms.com, Zappos.com, or Simply Be.com, Shipping & Handling, and Returns are FREE! This is a savings that really mounts up!
At these stores, you'd pay for the blouse, NOT for Shipping & Handling. Then, if you want to return it, you use the label they include and send it back. They credit your card for the blouse. Your out of pocket expense is ZERO! As it should be!
When you part with your cash, make sure you NEVER settle for things just because it's too expensive to send them back. They're expensive clutter, and you have no room for clutter.
I want you to keep you closets free for things that show you at your loveliest.
Nothing less than that, EVER.
Be beautiful!

Simply Be Scores with Joe Brown's quirky, youthful styles!
Winter catalogs are driving my postman to distraction! Sometimes I get 3 pounds of them in one day, and often it's a true waste of time, BUT I found some really cute styles in Simplybe.com's Joe Brown catalog!
This is the same British company that I had the shoe size beef with. However, we did discover that returns to Simply Be are free. Every shipment includes a postage paid address label that you just stick on top of the label that sent the package to you! Just make sure you send it back within 30 days.
And I've never had a problem with their clothing sizes. (Do remember, though, to check their size chart EVERY time, before you buy. As with all the companies, Your unchanged measurements may qualify you as a size 20 one month and a 22 the next, or vice-versa.)
If you adore dressing like Martha Stewart's fully-inflated sister, I'm sure you've found lots of styles at Chadwick's, Coldwater Creek and the many other preppy look suppliers.
But what about you artistic, adventurous types who DON'T want to be mistaken for a Bank of America Employee-of-the-Month or a cast memner of LA Law?
Joe Brown might be your new best friend! This is a collection that celebrates large lady curves! Tunics, leggings, street-style statements abound!
Even if you don't wear this stuff, it's fun to look at!

Your Bra Probably Doesn't Fit
BRA FITTING 101:
In my long and checkered past I have actually been trained to sell bras. I measured and explained and didn't even know that what I'd been trained to tell my customers was, largely bull****.
For starters, we carried the size I bought for myself: A 44 DDD. Trying it on in the store, it looked good. I wasn't concerned that it hurt when I reached for things and especially when I took it off at night. That was just the way all the bras I'd ever had had been.
After a couple of weeks, the 44DDD stretched and my breasts were shoved down onto my rib cage. That didn't concern me, because all the bras I'd ever had hurt and eventually stretched out of shape. By the way, back then, my breasts didn't lie heavy on my ribcage when I was bra-less.
The fact of the matter was that somehow, we large busted women didn't expect that bras could be as comfortable, functional and pretty as the bras C cup ladies could buy.
My bra sales training included the fact that when dealing with someone like me, whose breasts were obviously too big for anything we sold, to give her the 44DDD and assure her that even it it wasn't comfortable now, soon "It will stretch."
I didn't know then what I know now. You don't need to put up with "fitters" like me, who don't know what "fit" is.
Below, you'll find just about everything you'll ever need to know to find and look and feel fabulous in a gorgeous bra.
Let's start with terminology. While different companies may use different terms, these are the concepts you need to understand:
Bra styles
"Full coverage" means that the bra cup covers all, or nearly all of your breast. Your breast isn't supposed to stick out above a full coverage bra.
It can be hard to judge this in Redcats catalog shots, since often models are wearing bras that obviously don't fit. The breast is bulging up over the top edge of the bra cup.
Another way to tell if the bra is too small is to check your profile in a mirror. If you have cleavage on top but your nipples are pointing slightly (or very) downward, the cup is too small to accomadate your bountiful boobies. You need a larger cup size AND a different salesperson.
"Balconnettes" are cut to cover only the lower 2/3rds of the breast. If you want a balconnette bra, buy one from a reputable dealer, like Bravissimo.com In their catalogs, they show exactly how the bra should fit you.
The other "sexy" bra is the plunge bra, which exposes a V shape opening, baring you from your shoulders to your bra band line. These are made to show off your cleavage AND keep you cool on hot days or during hot flashes. If you tend to overheat it can be lots cooler in a plunge bra.
There are currently NO bra styles that are supposed to squeeze your breasts together into a single shelf. Even "shelf bras" that you find built into some exersize tops or swim suits are supposed to lift your breasts without squashing them together. That squashed together look is referred to as a "Uniboob" and has been not only sweaty and uncomfortable, but out of style for decades.
A good bra lifts and separates you breasts. If the cup fits, the center of the bra should not lift off of your breastbone. Uniboobs may come back into style some day. Until then, INSIST on larger cup size.
The chest band ties the cups together and around you. In a well engineered, properly fitting full cup or balconnette bra, the band will hold the bra in place, with or without bra straps.
All chest bands (being elastic) DO stretch with wear.
The solution? Buy bands that fit on the loosest hooks, so that as the band stretches and gets looser, you can take up the slack using the built in "tighter" hooks.
Or, buy cups that fit (for me, that's a 38 J) and buy bra extenders at your local fabric store. I need two extenders for a new bra. As the bands stretch, I use one, or, eventually, none. This means that what, for someone else, would be an old, streched out bra, still fits me perfectly after 2 or 3 years!
Projection refers to how far your breasts sticks out from your chest wall when NOT being smooshed by an inhumane bra.
You don’t want a bra that folds your breasts inside the cup. They should lie, full length in the cup without being squeezed or compressed. Remember, folding and compressing skin anyplace on your body can get in the way of good blood circulation and, in this case, optimal breast health.
A properly fitted bra lifts your breasts up off your rib cage so that air circulates under them and points them forward, never down. A cup size that's too small will look good in the store, then in a few weeks (or days) of use. Then, the chest band will stretch out and force your breasts to fall and point down, against your ribs. (see Chest Bands) This throws the stress points of the bra off so that the underwire digs into your ribs, the bra strap digs into your shoulders and the side boning of the bra digs into your ribs and or armpits, while the band pulls up in back.
Even after the 10th laundering, your bra should not pull away from your chest.
The center of the bra where the two cups touch or nearly touch should lie flat aganst the breastbone and there shouldn’t be any digging, ANYWHERE.
If your bra digs, it doesn’t fit.
If the center if the bra where the cups meet pulls way from your chest, the cups are too small or the band is too loose.
Unlike bands, cups don't usually stretch with wear, so make sure they fit perfectly.

Bras FIT you (or DON'T) based on
Chest band
This is the measurement that you get when you measure around your chest, keeping the tape even with the ground and touching the chest wall along the lower edge of your breasts.
When you read “44 D” the 44 is this chest band measurement, in inches. The D is the cup size.

Breast Circumference
Cup shapes are NOT uniform! Some cups are made for wide breasts that meet in the middle, some are made for narrow ones, spaced inches apart. Think of the base of your breast as a circle. You want a cup size that goes along the edges of that circle, NOT one that leaves red marks 2 or even 3 inches below or to the sides of your breast!
Circumference is how the bra cup encircles the base of the breast. The entire breast needs to be inside the cup or you’ll have pressure marks (even blisters!) where the edges of the cup cut in on the top, band edge and /or side. Nothing should press dents into your skin or leave red marks or bulges in your clothing that you don’t want.
In order to get a cup where my breast lies straight and uncompressed, I have to buy a size 38 J. My band measurement is 44, so "fitters" always gave me a size 44. The cups were always too wide. But the cup on a 38J is narrower than the cup on a 44J. I make up the difference on band size by hooking on one or two bra extenders. I just buy them online from Joanne'sFabrics.com
Once I realized that was an option, I found I could get bras to fit perfectly, NOT dig, and not even be noticable (no pain) during the day.
The other benefit was that everyone suddenly complemented me on my "weight loss" ! But it was true. With a comfy, well fitted bra your body looks in better proportion. You're likely to become more active, too, because nothing hurts!

Breast Shape
If your breasts are shaped like two equal halves of a globe, with perfectly centered nipples, placed so they point slightly up, congratulations! Either you're genetically blessed, or you have a marvelous surgeon!
As to everyone else, NO, you are not a freak if your breasts are not perfectly symetric and perfectly matched. Almost everyone has a larger and a smaller breast. Their shapes may not match perfectly, and nipples point in whichever direction they happen to point, be it up, down, or sideways. Breasts can have a flat side or be cone shaped. They come in almost endless variations of shapes. This is normal. Don't worry unless the shape begins to change or you find a difference in texture, thickened skin, or a lump or hard spot.
You need to learn about breast self exams, to be vigilant about changes that could mean cancer. Even very tiny lumps, unfamiliar indentations or bulges, puckering or changes in the texture of the surface skin need to be checked by your doctor immediately.
Other than that, anything that's normal for you that you don't like is just a cosmetic problem.
Luckily, we live in an era of engineering. Bras exist that can support, gently reshape and, if you wish, augment without causing discomfort or damage.
Most American companies have plastic foam bands to support the breasts. For me, that causes a skin rash, but until I found better designs (Check out Goddess's brand, "Kiera" style. It has lift, great shaping and is so well engineered that I sometimes tuck the straps and wear it strapless.) Anyway, until I found that, I would use pieces of cotton to separate my skin from the plastic. Inconvenient, but it worked. By the way, Goddess's "Keira" style is a nearly full coverage bra that comes in RED, navy blue, black, brown and nude. they even have animal prints. Every season you lose a few colors and get new ones in.
Breast balance

Breast balance
As I said, normal people have one breast smaller than the other. A little smaller, a LOT smaller, depending on your luck. This isn’t weird, no matter how much you’ve been teased.
Nipples are placed pretty much anywhere on the breast, high, medium or low, left right, whatever.
Breasts may look like deflated balloons, hanging flat against your midriff..
As long as you’ve seen a gynecologist and know it’s only a cosmetic problem, that’s all it is.
If you’ve bought into the Playboy image of what you should look like and if your poor self image is affecting your life, you may consider surgery. You too can have lovely, slightly scarred breasts that match. (with luck)
Be aware though, there are risks, and NOT just of losing the ability to breast-feed. I’ve received complaints of post surgical nerve damage (permanent) causing these wonderfully sensitive playthings to become permanently numb.
Think about it. You could have surgery (no minor health risk, not to mention painful) in order to attract someone who wants to touch your breasts. Then, while they obsess over the now dead-nerve areas, you're just getting bored! Sound unfair? It is!
If you’ve decided that unnecessary surgery would be stupid, or, you've just read enough Cosmo articles on Advanced Sexual Technique that the man in your life doesn’t notice anything but the sensations you cause in him, Cosmetic Problems of breast balance can be dealt with easily, usually with padding.
Padding
Padding can be anything that works for you. Kleenex has never really gone out of style and is really good on high humidity sweaty days, since you can toss it and repack each time you visit the Ladies' Room.
Catalogs have padding options galore! Everything from a thin layer of foam that is built into both cups, so a slight unevenness is undetectable, to push-up pads that can be used on just one side, and mastectomy prostheses for post-surgery gals, or those of us that are seriously heavier on one side. These things can be made of gel, foam, little bags of fine sand or little pieces of plastic, or even water balloons. The gel and water baloons actually warm to match your body temperature and you can match the density of the pad to your body. In the case of a water balloon, fill it so it's as soft or firm as your breast. Just don't poke it with any pins.
Experiment. See what you like.
Two parting thoughts:
1. Remember that half of shopping is returning what doesn't fit.
2. The problem has never been your breasts. The problem has been finding the right bra for them.
Be stubborn. Be tenacious!
Be beautiful!

Online Lingerie & Bras
Lingerie
You'll find Nightgowns, sleep shirts, etc at All catalogues, but Redcats Group prices are usually best, especially if you have the time and patience to shop clearances.
BCO outlet is the clearance center for all of the Redcats stores (Woman Within. Roamans, Jessica London, Avenue, plus Ulla Popken) and here you ca find deep discounts, sometimes even a polyester (very silky charmeuse) sexy nightgown for little as $16.
I've shopped LOTS of lingerie specialty sites, but these are the ones that I can recommend.

Lady Grace.com has the best assortment of body smoothers, shapers and cast iron girdles I’ve found so far. Even better, they have a variety of parts, so, while ladies with average torso lengths can buy an all in one-piece “shaper” (including bra, midriff/back whittler and girdle) the petites and long torso gals can buy the pieces separately, for a custom fit.
Some pieces are practical (literally squeezing you into a lump-free hourglass figure. Uncomfortable after a while, but looking like the diet worked better than it really did. They compress your skin to get rid of creases, rolls and bounce.
Others are just to cover your skin so your clothes don’t stick when you get hot and sweaty dancing. READ the descriptions, but be prepared to be misled, because cast iron girdle makers describe their products as silky shapers, while silky shapers promise to get rid of bulges. As always, expect to send things back for other styles and sizes.
UK vs European vs US cup sizes.
Don't be shy about searching around the world. The best selection I ever found was at Bravissimo's store in Milton Keynes, England. Tons of Gorgeous Bras!
Your credit card will be accepted for any currency , anywhere. Just make sure that you set up an account with a bank that won't gouge you for currency changing. That used to cost them a lot. Now, it's routine, so don't stay with a card company that gives you hassles.
Remember to check the size comparisons (UK & European vs USA) my J- cup is anr H in England.

READ the consumer reviews!
On the reviews, women who like the bra will tell you if and where bra you're considering tends to run large or small. I’ve often be advised to buy an extra band or cup size up or down.
In Goddess sizes, on my beloved Kiera style, I have to order 3 cup sizes up to get a good fit.
Like other clothes sizes, bra sizes claim to be standard and AREN’T. In the reviews previous buyers tell you whether you need to buy a cup or band size up or down. Also, hope for good tips on comfort and durability.

ONLINE BRA STORES
Bravissimo.com UK MANY gorgeous, sexy, practical, sturdy bras up to N cup size. We're talking lace, lots of colors, multi-colored bras, evenup to N cups! No orthopedic bras here! They're MORE supportive than my old orthopedic bras, but (assuming that they fit) they're comfortable and the kind of bras you only expect to find up to a D cup!
Even better, when you shop, they give you a chart that shows all of the sizes they have available in that style and color, so you can see at a glance whether you could get a size larger or smaller. This is a real time saver.

Figleaves.com carry Panache bras I found a 20% off sale! Nice styles and good brands.
Lady Grace.com isn't as good for bras as for shape wear. They have too many orthopedic looking bras with multiple layers of plastic foam and fabric that don't let air near your skin. Not only that. but these grandma-looking bras don't support my large breasts as well as the flimsy-looking lace bra styles at Bravissimo!
Still, as I said before, this is the best site I've found for shapewear.

HerRoom.com Almost as good as Bravissimo, but not as many bras combining sexy & sturdy.
Obviously, I haven't found many good to great online sites, but there isn't even one brick and mortar store in the San Francisco Bay Area where I can walk in and find a selection of truly wonderful, practical, comfortable bras. My online search had years of "better than the last one, but it still hurts" bras.
I found out last year that my sister, who is exactly my size, was still wearing a 44 DDD, which her department store fitter assured her was "perfect. Well, the red welts below her breasts said something else. She deserved better. And so do you!

Online Wide Shoe Sources
Sources: Wide Shoes up to EEEE
BE READY TO SEND SHOES BACK. Sizes are NOT standard! You size 6D foot may find a perfect home in a shoe labelled 6EE or even 6 C! It’s often just luck.
Redcats Group (catalogues include often reasonably priced shoes and often-overpriced purses) Their shoes are often cute and if you have a D width foot or less, you can be happy here.
HOWEVER...
HOWEVER...
If you measure their WW or Xwide shoes, you find they nearly match their D width, even though they claim to be EE widths.
Being a EEE who often fits EEs, I don't even bother trying any more. I skip Redcats stores' shoe sales as a waste of time.

Footsmart.com has good outlet prices, carries the Propet brand. I’ve never has any service problems with them. They carry some nice styles into EE. They also carry lots of shoes marked EE that aren't. If you want to save time, stick to the Propet brand.
Hotterusa.com (UK)1866 378 7811 up to D/E. They advertise an EEE width in a few styles, but rarely in any color other than black and brown. This site is a heartbreaker, because lots of these shoes look really pretty and comfy, in reds, blues, purples and even yellow! Then Poof! The ones they claimed were in my size (if any) are only in brown. But it gets worse!
I went to one of their mall stores in Milton Keynes, England and tried on the only pair of EEEs they had. Like so many shoes I've tried before, it was marked EEE but it was actually only a D/E. Holding it up to the next size down, neither I or my companion could see a difference. What a disappointment!
If you only need a D width, they have cute comfort shoes: walkers, mary janes, sandals, with lots of padding & support.

Maryland Square.com shoes etc
Onlineshoes.com has shoes for EEEE feet. (Count 'em! 4E's!) Some cute ones, lots of choices for walking shoes. Several views of each shoe! I had no problems with orders, quick delivery or returns. the returns were a first. Some of the shoes were too big! I actually gave two pairs to a tall friend who wears size 12 EE. They fit her.

ShoeMall.com has several views of each shoe, so you know whether the shape of the sole matches the shape of your foot,, how wide the heel is, how well-supported your foot will be.
They also print consumer reviews of shoes that will let you know if you need to buy one size up or down to accommodate your needs to the idiosyncracies of the manufacturers ideas of sizing.
Zappos.com has FREE SHIPPING both ways, until you have a hoe that fits! This will save you a lot!
My order arrived in 4 days (standared delivery, which was included in the cost). 3 pairs of shoes, bought half price or less on clearance. I was very surprised that the Propet “Seville”boots in 4E fit. Usually Propet’s 2E fit exactly this way. Really cute and comfy! So does this mean that Propet has chaned sizing again?
I also got a pair of sandals and a pair of heels from David Tate. Cute, but not as comfy in patent leather. It rubs on the edges, even though the fit is good. I’ll be gluing a soft lining along those edges. (sigh) It must be great to have normal size everything and not have to learn how to adjust shoes and clothes with linings, darts, etc.
These are my most reliable Shoe brands of the ones I've tried. They have cute, well made styles for EE-EEE feet Sometimes you MAY find a non -orthopedic 4E.
Dress Shoes: David Tate,
Sandals Propet
Machine washable walking shoes and Mary Jane styles: Propet
Heels to E (not EE) width: Softspots "Neima" is a pretty sandal heel that comes in several colors. "EE" is actually a generous D-E. Be ready to call and ask them to search stock and send you a wider one. I did and they sent one that I could actually have worn (for brief periods of time) to replace one I actually couldn't get my foot into. Both were marked the same size, so persist.
Insist on getting the fit you deserve!

These are stores I’ve tracked purchases from. The items were delivered and of reasonable quality.
Ashro.com 1800 865 9442 Lots of fat store clothing is bland and even boring. Ashro breaks the mold.
They market to gorgeous black women, and have great dress-up and date clothes,
hot Easter Sunday church lady outfits, dressy mother of the bride outfits! There are a few very
attractive “ethnic” African clothes. (Why aren’t Paris fashions called “ethnic”?) I like them because
they’d look good on my plus size figure and they tend to be cotton and comfy-looking. The ladies’
headdresses would be a great chemotherapy option!
Also wigs, although I’ve never bought one from them..
I usually very good prices and lots of fun looks that are hard to find in large sizes!
Catalogue Favorites.com glamour and novelty jewelry, funny T-shirts, jewelry, apparently anything they
saw and said ooo!
Avenue.com (Redcats,One Stop)
Catherine.com Pear shaped? Good news! Many of Catherines selections are geared toward large
thighs and proportionately small waists. Scanning their site this morning was a revelation! The skirts
fit their models around the waist, then bagged around the thigh area.
This bodes well for those of us who need that cut!
The bad news was that prices are high. A polyester A-line skirt is listed
“on clearance” for over $50.
A simple cotton kurta blouse (usually around $36retail, is over $40 in
“clearance”. Moral: Shop carefully!
CasualLivingusa.com 1800 843 1881 Yuppie casual. Office wear.

Chicos.com sizes 0-22 Market to a younger, thinner crowd, but some fun items.
ColdwaterCreek.com professional class work and casual clothes. Beware of dry clean only, but they DO have some very flattering styles., especially if you’re 5’1’-5’6” I’m 5’10”, so all I buy is skirts and scarves. Worth knowing: They have a "forever" return policy. IF your dress looks bad after you wash it, they'll take it back.
DevaLifeWear.com 1800 222 8024 “cottage industry seamstresses make a living wage working from home” making this cotton “lifewear” SML XL, 2x, 3x in basic shapes (not tailored) in varying weights of cotton weaves and knits. Very plain , but ideal if you want quality basics to bead or build a look. For fall 2011 they also have pirate shirts and some Ren Faire or Celtic Pride-appropriate shirts.
Fashion Bug is a brick and mortar (find it at the strip-mall) store. They carry large sizes. I haven't had much luck there, but friends have. Happy hunting!

JMS has LOTS of non-tailored, cotton and cotton blend knit T’s shirts, jackets and skirts. I also like their in-house jeans. These clothes are NOT SEXY, but very simple and comfy, at reasonable prices. They occasionally have some good sales.
LaneBryant.com (now separated from “Woman Within”) seems to aim at a short skirt demographic.
I was looking at jeans and they didn’t list inseam length on the info, I went on to the “fit” sheet and came up empty. No fit sheet! Just an empty page. downloaded.
MiBplus size.com (Making It Big) models are large size, lots of cottons & linens Cotton tunic, untailored for $79 normal to super-sizes, nice styles.Embroidery,
Navabi.us.com Theorectically, they have sizes 12-28. I spent 15 minutes in their clearance section and

Roaman’s.com (Redcats Group) Cute but conservative, practical clothes, with a few exceptions, NOT usually sexy clothes, but worn on sexy models you can be fooled. As always, imagine how low that neckline would go on you. The models are about 5'3". If you're taller than that, be wary. Right now empire waists are trending and if you're tall, the waist band will overlap your breast. Not a flattering look.

July 27’11 went through entire clearance section. Actually found 6 skirts in my size (24)
at very good prices. I’ll let you know how they are when they arrive.
October'11 Bought 5 pairs of flashy, sassy Oscar Red Carpet HIGH heels in, get this! size 10 EEE! So excited! Until they arrived.
My often measured foot IS a size 10EEE. These shoes were 3/4 inch too narrow. That's it's own subject.
Moral: Their heels aren't even close to true to width. Four pairs of the offending heels were from Viva La Diva. On behalf of Divas everywhere, I'm offended.
Soft Surroundings.com Nice, sexy descriptions of “silk-blend, curve-loving “ $128 fishermen’s sweaters. They have knits and soft wovens. Some of these could be worn to an office. Enjoyable reading and whqat appears to be nice, pricey casual wear, but only up to size 24. Lots of long tops (32”, 34”) but Tall girls, beware! One of the photos has what appears to be a moderately low (no cleavage) neckline, and it drapes halfway down the thigh on a model in who must be under 5 feet tall, since the caption says the shirt is 30” long. On a tall gall, that wouldn’t cover your bottom, much less drape below the hips..

Sonsi.com This is Lane Bryant merchandise displayed in a magazine/catalogue format. Medium size models, (not twigs, but only slightly upholstered) Some nice shapes, a few teen-friendly items. Some very very matronly styles. Not dependable about including lengths on dresses and formal gowns, or whether the item can be washed or dry-cleaned. I’m guessing most of these floor length Spring Prom and mother-of the Bride gowns would hit me mid-calf? But that’s just a guess. And if they don’t SAY an item can be cleaned, be wary!
Southwest Indian Foundation Jesuit 800 504 2723 long cotton skirts, matching or coordinated knit
cotton tops, well made and very washable, from
$29-$ 79, perfect colors for coordinating with your Southwestern look blouses and Native American
Jewelry. This company is a fundraiser for Catholic missionary work with Native Americans. I don’t know if the products are made in America, but the quality is good. I can’t vouch for the jewelry prices (not an expert)
Talbots.com sizes 12-24, Not my favorite, but they get points for hiring large sized models (size 18-ish).. Lots of polyester priced over $100.
They don’t put the length on tops, so unless you know the model personally, you can’t guess whether
she’s 5’2” or 6’2”.
Men’s Clothing
Ladies! It’s easier to find bigshirts, long turtlenecks and tees in Men’s and Men’s Tall sizes! Just be aware that shoulders and pants fronts may be oversized for you. As always, compare your measurements to the size charts and be aware that men’s clothes are often cut to be really REALLY loose on skinny guy legs, which means it’s a good bet they’ll skim over your thighs! .
There is no better place to find “boyfriend” sweaters, shirts, etc, than men’s catalogues!
KingSize.com One of the Redcats Group. Always check for coupons and sales both directly and through One-Stop.com, the Redcats outlet, and BCO.com, BargainCenterOutlet, the Redcats clearance site.
Usually good customer service. Lots of pants styles that offer to trim them to the inseam length you specify.

Brick and Mortar (Real) Stores: Burlington Coat Factory
Today while I was giving blood (literally) my hostess told me that the really cute, practical (slightly sparkly, but machine washable) tunic she had on was $25 at Burlington Coat Factory!
I've checked them out before, and neither I or their clerks found anything in a size over 1x, so frankly, I was surprised.
My informant wasn't. She often has a terrible time locating anything in that store, but she stuck to it til she struck gold.
Apparently Burlington Coat Factory is one of those "Sometimes they have something, sometimes They don't." stores.

Apparently Burlington Coat Factory is one of those "Sometimes they have something, sometimes They don't." stores.
She said the clerks didn't know enough to help her. She had a hard time finding the 2x's, stuck in a back corner. BUT, once she found them, they actually had a really good selection, up to 3x ! So maybe Burlington's could work for you?
Maybe, if you don't think of it as shopping, but indoor exercise, as you prowl like a lioness, through aisle after aisle, till you corner your elusive prey?
If you prowl fast, you may work up a sweat, then, by the time you find your tunic, you could be one X smaller?
This doesn't seem like a practical shopping method. You might be able to find and order your item and get it delivered to your house before you chance upon the legendary Large Sizes Collection at Burlington Coat Factory.
But it was a really cute tunic...
Be beautiful!

Diets Hmmmmm...
As time has gone by and diets have succeeded and failed, I've become a cynic. That whole notion that once I've gone down a couple of sizes, I should toss out my "fat clothes" on the theory that I'll never gain the weight back has proved really stupid.
About 9 years ago, I broke my life-long diet. In high school I weighed a horrendous 185 pounds. On one food plan or another I'd lose 15 pounds then gain back 22, then lose 40 and gain back 60. Diet by diet, I was gradually zig zagging up to 322 pounds.
One day, I just stopped. I started eating whatever I wanted. I thought I'd start packing on pounds like a prize hog. But I didn't. My weight stayed the same. It finally occurred to me that back when I weighed 185, I wasn't gaining weight until after I dieted down to 160 (then shot up to 221.) Would I still be 185 pounds if I'd never gone on that first diet?
For me, at least, the diets have been a disaster.
Since I realized that, I've focused on what foods I feel better with or without. For instance, wheat (yes, I DO mean anything made with flour, even whole wheat flour!) makes me sleepy and kind of depressed.
Milk makes me gassy. I guess I must be lactose intolerant.
I'm diabetic (apparently not because of diet, since my entire family is diabetic.) But that means that I can't have large amounts of sugar without burning out nerve cells (including ones in my brain!)
Having no extra brain cells to spare, I'm not risking that.
I don't give anything up. I substitute healthy foods that I like for things (including those listed above) that I'm not willing to put up with.
For instance, I love fruit, and I like beans, so I sub fruit and beans for bread and most cereals... MOST of the time. If I really want something, or if it's ceremonial (like wedding cake or birthday cake) I'll make exceptions.
I refuse to let myself feel deprived. I found out that if I have a serious craving and I don't immediately give in to it, I end up spending thousands more calories on "healthier substitutes" that don't stop the craving and only lead to even more "healthy substitues" For instance, if I want See's Candy and I go and buy it and eat it, 'll have consumed 5000 calories. And be craving free for about three months.
If, on the other hand, I tell mysel "See's Candy is BAD!" and the craving doesn't go away, I'm likely to come home with a bag of Snack Wells, fried foods and heaven knows what else. The craving can go on indefinitely, and turn into LOTS more calories than the original See's would have been.
So now I give any craving five days. If it's still there, I give in.
The pounds aren't peeling off. They're very slowly crawling away, a few at a time. But before, between whatever diets I was pinning my hopes on at the time, I was consistently gaining weight. Now, over a period of YEARS, not weeks, just giving up things that I don't miss, I'm down to 272, (as of this morning.)
My blood sugars are well enough under control that my doctor has cut my medication.
My point here is to pay attention to what YOUR body needs.
Make sure you have your protein and healthy fats to fuel and heal and your fruits and veg of choice for fiber and carbs plus LOTS of water to keep your intestinal tract clean and moving swiftly.

After that, do whatever keeps you happiest and healthiest, because that's what will make you free to enjoy your body and your life!
Be beautiful!

Returns: Simply Be
I returned the high heels. Calling the return phone number on my packing slip, I spoke to a nice, but confused clerk who honestly didn't grasp that shoes might be mis-marked , or that there might be sizes above "extra wide." Even so, he was as helpful as he could be, and Simply Be's return policy is great. They enclose FREE return labels in every shipment. (They're the lower half of the packing slip. They peel off and are self-adhesive, so you just stick them directly over the original address label).
So this is one of the stores where a problem item WON'T cost you $17 to send back.
As I said, I tried to find out if they have any 10EEEs that actually ARE true to size. No luck there, so until I hear otherwwise, I won't waste my time trying to buy shoes there, but those of you whop wear D width, be aware, they have some really sexy heels. But you may need to order a EEE to get a D. Good luck!

The Quest : Glamorous Heels in 3 E Widths (Not at SimplyBe.com)
When I walk out on stage I want to look like Dolly Parton's more glitzy sister.
I'm serious! Being on stage is the perfect excuse to wear all those Barbie Doll clothes that would just look silly at a PTA meeting! The dresses, jeans, tops are becoming available, but when it comes to finding really cool high heels to complete the outfit, it's an ongoing quest.
I started thinking about this back when I actually had a Barbie Doll. Her shoes looked SO pretty. The fact that they were so uncomfortable looking didn't phase me much, since at the time, I thought I was going to be a ballerina and spend most of my time dancing on tip-toe anyway.
Then I grew to be 5'7" (too tall for a ballerina) them finally 5'10". I knew it was time to hang up my toe shoes, but I still loved the idea of "entrance heels."
Entrance heels are red-carpet shoes: the ones you show up and make your grand entrance in. You make that all-important first impression, pose for photos, then quietly change into the dancing slippers you've been carrying in your gorgeous beaded purse, so you can dance the night away.
Great plan. But where does someone like me get entrance heels? I've found very nice, comfy 3" heels from David Tate and Propet. On me, they look the way a 2" heel looks on someone who's 5'3." Nice, but not glamorous.
Mother of the Bride styles. Available at Footsmart.com and Shoemall.com.
But I never found my gorgeous dream of Barbie-doll/Oscars night-worthy heels.
Then there they were, on a British website called "Simply Be." A huge selection of AMAZING EEE width glam-heels! ON SALE!
I was seriously excited! Even my postman was excited for me!
Until they arrived.
They were beautiful. Gold sequins, red patent leather, Silver satin, apparently well made, yet each pair under $60! (Wide shoes, like other hard-to-get commodities, can be VERY expensive.)
There was just one issue: They were all approximately D width.
How do I know that?
I think I'll have to buy one of those shoe-store foot measurers. You know? The one you step on with the ball of your foot against one spot, then you slide the little marker over against the outside of your foot and read the width it points to?
Well, MY width on those foot measurers is invariably EEE. And these gorgeous shoes were all about 3/4 inch too narrow for my feet. Yet these heels were marked 10 EEE. The boxes they came in said 10EEE. The shipping form in the box said 10 EEE. And the Simply Be online catalogue I purchased them from said 10EEE.
So, did I expect them to be 10EEE?
Not really. This has happened too many times. Apparently, most shoe companies believe that people (like us) who want to buy EEE shoes DON'T REALLY have EEE feet. Just delusions of grandeur.
So they humor us, by making their D width shoes available, stamped with any size marking we choose to order.
The worst thing is that lots of times, we don't RETURN the shoes, insisting on free postage, (since after all, mis-marked sizes are a manufacturing flaw) and so THEY WIN! They sold a shoe that wasn't what they claimed and they made their money.
Meanwhile one of us was conned out of her hard earned cash, but kept quiet and probably kept the shoes too, wishfully thinking that maybe someday the bones in her foot would shrink.
If you ordered the wrong size shoe, you may need to pay return costs. The way you avoid ordering the wrong size is to go to a wide shoe specialty store and measure your feet on that little machine with the slider. Write down your correct size, NOT what the salesman says you can fit into if you squeeze REAL hard.
Then, ONLY order shoes in the correct size. If they don't carry shoes wide enough for you, you should complain. Don't give them any money.
My lovelies, there is no shame in having feet at the lower end of your leg. ANY feet!
There IS shame in manufacturers not supplying the sizes and widths they advertise. That's fraud. Get mad. Don't put up with it. Call your supplier, insist on a free return label, and RETURN Them!
If you have time, go back to the store site (in this case, SimplyBe.com) look the fraudulent item up, and where it says "write a review" warn your sisters not to fall for this con!
The brand names involved (all mis-marked) were Viva La Diva and Isabella Cole.
Someday, my lovelies, we will live in a world where everyone is treated fairly.
Until then, don't put up with any crap!
Be Beautiful!
